land protection: Overview

This section provides basic information about legal and financial issues for private woodland owners in Minnesota.

This section is still in development. We've built a page with information about incentive payments under Minnesota's Sustainable Forest Incentives Act (SFIA), which provides an annual per-acre payment to forest landowners who agree to a set of commitments.

Our conservation easements page includes information about permanent land protection options that keep land forested, intact, and in your family's ownership.

The intergenerational land transfer page includes information about transferring your land to members of your family, other individuals, land trusts, or others.

The income tax page will include information to help landowners plan ahead to manage income taxes associated with land ownership and management.

We've also recently added a carbon credits page that provides information and links about how carbon credits work. This is a fairly new opportunity and we will update as information becomes available.
